Less Calcium Could Trigger Sudden Heart Attack

One of the existing content in milk is calcium. Apparently calcium is also good for the heart muscle, because lack of calcium can lead to sudden cardiac arrest.

"Calcium in milk is its main function as well in addition to bone to heart muscle contraction, because it can also be a sudden heart attack due to lack of calcium," says nutritionist Emilia E Achmadi, MS, RD in the event celebrates World School Milk Day for Child Nutrition Improvement SDN01 Menteng, Jakarta.

Emilia said that the failure of the heart muscle contraction is the same as the common cramps. However, if for example the leg cramps, it can be overcome by doing the massage, but if the heart muscle cramps it can not be massaged as usual.

"In the muscle contractions is needed calcium in the blood, and research about it already exists. If possible, from milk because it is the best source," said Emilia who is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, USA.

This is because in milk besides calcium there are also other nutrients that have benefits for the body, such as vitamin A, which can protect the skin, and vitamin B complex which is good for thinking and optimize nerve function.

Even so this calcium intake is not recommended obtained through supplements, because the intake obtained naturally stay better. Other than milk some other foods that contain calcium, such as cheese, almonds, yogurt or broccoli.

Calcium has an important function for the organ that helps regulate heart rate pacemaker cell contraction, signaling the muscles to contract and to tell the heart how strong the contractions.

Apart from lack of calcium, heart attacks can also be triggered by diet and unhealthy lifestyle such as often eating fatty foods, less exercise, alcohol consumption and smoking.
