Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a
disease transmitted through blood. In 2010, there are about 300 thousands
people of Indonesia which infected with HIV. There are several ways you can do
to prevent the spread of this dangerous virus, one of them is circumcision.
"Circumcision is been researched
in foreign countries. Circumcision on men can reduce HIV transmission to that
person up to 56 percent, although not very effective than condoms which reached
70 percent," said Chairman of Specialist Doctors Association of Indonesia
(PAPDI), Samsuridjal Djauzi , when met in the press conference and an HIV
prevention program, Jakarta.
HIV infection is transmitted through blood,
the infection was going to travel through the white blood cells, lymphocytes,
and CD4 + T which present in blood circulation, lymph nodes, liver,
lymph and other organs (genitals). On male genitalia, there is a mucous
membrane, this part is causing the wet and moisture. There are also CD4 + T and
lymphocytes that capable of providing protection of your vital organs from the
disease.
However, if you are not circumcised, the
mucous membrane that will continue to cover your vital organs, and causing
microorganisms grow more easily. Therefore, if a man are circumcised, mucous
membrane will form a drier tissue. There was no place for bacteria and
viruses to reproduce.
"Indonesia's highest HIV prevalence is in
some areas, such as Papua, Riau Islands, East Java, West Java, and Jakarta.
Transmission of HIV virus currently prevalent because of sexual intercourse.
Therefore, do circumcision early also reduces growth of cervical cells, or
human papilloma virus to their partners. "
